Community Service Award 20162015 NAPWDA Workshop

Community Service Award, March 2016
reprinted from Pet Business from Global Expo March 18, 2016

Retailers have always had great success from the Pet-Owning community in their local areas.  The Community Service Award was presented to Pet Things in Douglasville for their daily acheivements with the community.  This award highlights the fellowship, integrity and full committment to the surrounding community.

Terry and Cathy Brlecic, owners of a Single-Store operation have a committment to continually pay their community back for that support that earned this award.

In three short years of being open to the public, they have donated over 43,000 pounds of Dog/Cat food to the local Humane Society shelter.  (That's over 20 Tons of food!)  This generosity allows the Animal Shelter greater financial independence to allow better care of the animals in the facility.  Due to this action, the Humane Society has started a spay and Neuter program and all the dogs can get their needed vaccinations.   If that wasn't enough The Brlecic's have rehomed about 40 dogs, four cats and a Rabbit with support from the customers of the store and given these animals a new life they would not have had sitting in a Shelter.   They have also donated 7500 cans of Dog food and 1000 pounds of Cat Litter.

By partnering with the food manufacturers, Pet Things has been able to support the Douglas County K-9 unit by feeding and  donating goodie bags for the North American Police Working Dog Association seminars which are hosted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.

Terry and Cathy enhance this committment by posting lost Animals on their Facebook site, posting signs and sometimes keeping these animals in the store away from the dangers of the environment.  They can also check for any microchips for found dogs in the store.

"We did it by just being ourselves and having extreme love for everyone's pets"
